Principles

This policy provides for the option of concession tuition fees for accredited members of the diplomatic corps and their immediate dependents in order both to acknowledge their current contributions and to encourage their involvement in the University community as students and active alumni.

At the discretion of the Registrar, Division of Registrar and Student Services (DR&SS), and subject to evidence of minimal or no financial support for this purpose from or through the relevant Embassy, accredited members of the diplomatic corps and their immediate dependants will be charged tuition fees that are the nearest price point above the current indicative minimum fees for international students, as set by the Australian Government for the particular discipline.

This policy provides no concessions on admission requirements and is limited to undergraduate award studies only.

Procedures

1. Application for a tuition fees concession under this policy is available to:

  • Accredited members of the International Diplomatic Corps in Australia holding 995 visas and resident in Canberra and immediate local areas
  • Their legal or de factopartners/spouses and/or
  • Their children (including step, adopted or foster children).

2. The tuition fees concession is only available for undergraduate award programs within the University.

3. This policy provides concessions for tuition fees only and does not include other fees appropriate to and advertised for the program in which they seek to enrol.

4. Application of the tuition fees concession is at the discretion of the Registrar.

5. Students seeking tuition fees concessions must:

  • Meet the admission requirements for international students including academic and language requirements in force for the year in which they seek admission.
  • Meet any other requirements for international students required by the University.
  • Demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Registrar that they, or their parent or spouse, hold a 995 visa for temporary residence in Australia and that they are resident in Canberra or the immediate local area.
  • Not hold any ANU scholarship that meets the cost of tuition fees in whole or in part.
  • Provide evidence of lack of significant financial support for educational purposes from or through their Embassy.

6. Applicants are requested to submit original documentary evidence to the Registrar that they meet the criteria outlined in (1) and (5) prior to the first day of the semester in which concession fees are sought. Copies of the documentation will be retained on file by the University for audit purposes.

7. The Registrar is responsible for considering the application and approving or declining the discount. The Registrar SAS will notify the student of the outcome of their application by the date when the International Student Fee is due for that semester. The Registrar's decision is final.

8. The Tuition Fee that will be charged will be based on the ANU Price Point that will yield an indicative annual fee closest to, but in excess of, the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) published Indicative Minimum (http://www.deewr.gov.au/HigherEducation/Resources/Documents/Rates2010.pdf) for the particular discipline area of each course in which the student seeks to enrol.

9. If awarded the fees concession, the student will continue to receive the concession rate for the duration of their first undergraduate qualification at the University. Tuition fees will be indexed annually for all students in line with movements in the DEEWR Indicative Minima and corresponding ANU Price Points.

10. Should students situation with respect to the criteria outlined in (1) and (5) change at any time during their studies, they must advise theRegistrar SAS in writing, immediately. It is at the discretion of the Registrar whether to continue the concession.

11. The ANU reserves the right to vary tuition fee price points.

12. For the purposes of internal distribution of funds, central overhead charges other than the DEEWR required Capital Component will be reduced for tuition fees collected under this policy arrangement.
