Appointment as a Deputy, Associate or Sub Dean or Director
A Dean of Faculty, or Director of a Research School or University Centre may appoint one of more Deputy, Associate and Sub Deans or Directors. In making such appointments the Dean or Director
- should consult academic and general staff employed in the School, Faculty or Centre; and
- will have regard to the Roles and Responsibilities above.
Appointments are usually held for three years and postholders may be reappointed.
The instrument of appointment is a letter of offer from the Human Resources Division. It will define the particular role required of the appointee and will specify performance measures against which the appointee will be assessed by the Dean or Director.
The Dean or Director may recommend to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor the early termination of an appointment to Deputy, Associate and Sub Deans or Directors where agreed performance measures have not been met.
Conditions of appointment remain those set out in the appointee's substantive Contract of Employment.
Remuneration
Remuneration will be by way of a superannuable loading between $6,106 and $12,210 per annum, as determined by the Dean or Director. The loading is paid in addition to the appointee's substantive salary.
The dollar value will be adjusted in accordance with percentage movements in the University's academic salary scale.
External Appointments
There is nothing to preclude Deputy Deans or Directors being appointed against advertised positions for which normal contestable selection procedures are applied. In those cases an appropriate salary would be set, having regard to the loadings specified above.
