Procedure

Comprehensive documentation of procedures is available from the OHS Unit*.

No research, teaching or operational work with Class 3 or 4 lasers shall be undertaken until a risk assessment of the work is completed and the Director, Dean or Manager of the Area is satisfied that the hazards associated with the work are controlled as far as is reasonably practicable.

All research, teaching and operational work with Class 3 or 4 lasers shall be undertaken (as a minimum) according to the relevant requirements and guidelines documented in the University's Laser Safety manual.

The current contents of the Laser Safety manual are given below.
